Roy Sigler

Sigler began a youth soccer program in 1962 in Middletown while training for the U.S. Pan American Team tryouts. The program continued during the summers from 1963 through 1967, and is regarded as the launching pad for successful youth soccer in Frederick County. Seven members of that original group of 10-12 players went on to play NCAA Division I soccer, and most returned to Frederick County to push soccer forward.

Sigler played at Middletown and was a four-year right wing at Frostburg State, where he earned All-South honors all four years and All-America status in 1961. He spent 12 years as a college coach, eight as head coach at Boston University. He was the first inductee into the Frostburg Sports Hall of Fame and was inducted into the Frederick County YMCA Sports Hall of Fame in 1979.
