Julia Roberts

Julia Roberts is the most nationally decorated soccer player to hail from Frederick County. The Class of 2009 Urbana graduate played for the U.S. U16, U17 and U20 National Teams, helped the University of Virginia to four NCAA tournament appearances and played two years professionally for the Seattle Sounders and Washington Spirit.

Roberts was a three-time high school all-state player, a two-time NSCAA High School All-American, a Parade All-American in 2009, and spent time as captain of the U.S. Under-17 National Team. She was part of the U.S. Under-17 team that won a silver medal in the 2008 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup. She scored a pair of goals leading Urbana to a state title in 2007 and had led her club team, McLean Freedom, to a national title just a few months earlier. She was the nation’s No. 4-rated prospect by ESPN in 2009.
