Roelkey Myers

Roelkey Myers has been involved in local soccer in many facets, including as coach, camp director and official. But it is contribution to the sport as an administrator and organizer to sets him apart. In the 1980s, he created the county’s first indoor soccer league at the YMCA. Shortly thereafter, Myers started a 10-player pick-up team to compete in an indoor tournament in Easton, Md., and that effort evolved to “YMCA Select” to “GO Feet” to “Excel,” and after merging with a local girls club, became FC Frederick.

Myers was a defender for Walkersville High School, which included a state runner-up finish. He also played at Frederick Community College and in the Mason-Dixon League. He was the head coach at Walkersville High for seven seasons and coached numerous local club teams. He also coached Walkersville Mason-Dixon team to league and tournament titles in 1991. Myers is brainchild behind the Frederick County Soccer Hall of Fame.
