Bob Sheffler

In 38 seasons as Middletown's boys' soccer coach from 1974-2011, Sheffler's teams went 414-128-33, which included two state title, seven runner-up finishes, nine regional titles, and 18 MVAL championships.

Named NSCAA National Coach of the Year in 1994 and Regional Coach of the year in 1992 and 1994, Sheffler was named Frederick County Boys' Soccer Coach of the Year in 1985, 1988, 1991, 1993 and 1994. His career win total stands as the second-most in Maryland high school soccer history.

He helped pioneer a dramatic change in the game from a more direct style of the 1950s and 60s to a more possession-oriented style that still lingers in today's game in Frederick County.
