John Horine

Horine had a storied career as both a player and groundbreaking coach. He started four years of varsity soccer at Middletown and four years at Frostburg State, where he led the team in scoring three times. Horine was named All-South in 1956, 1957 and 1958. He was an alternate to the U.S. Northeast Regional team for the 1959 Pan American Games. He also lettered in track, basketball, golf and baseball at Frostburg State and was inducted into the Bobcat Hall of Fame in 1981.

Horine coached high school soccer from 1960 until 1966, first at Emmitsburg and then at Middletown. His teams won two county championships. In 1983, he started the first girls high school soccer team in Frederick County, and Middletown went 40-8-1 in his four years as coach.
