Jim Deegan

Deegan was a coaching icon at Mount St. Mary’s in two sports — soccer and track. While he might be more known for his track success, he spent 38 of his 50 years at Mount St. Mary’s as the men’s soccer coach where he guided the Mount to 216 wins and through two transitions — first into NCAA Division II in 1973 and again into NCAA Division I in the late 1980s.

He coached seven All-Americans. He also was named Northeast Conference Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year in 1990 when the Mountaineers went 12-5-3. As a college track coach from 1956-2006, Deegan coached 78 All-Americans, 25 NCAA champions, and 11 Olympians. His track program produced at least one All-American for 23 consecutive years from 1972 through 1994.
